Connecting Families to New Outdoor Experiences
WHAT WE DO
TLA works to introduce youth and families who are less fortunate to experience outdoor activities such as Hunting, Fishing, Camping, Kayaking, Hiking, Conservation and more. Through our programs, volunteers & partners, we create experiences that educate and change lives in youth and families to enjoy and become more involved with the outdoors.

WHY DOES TLG MATTER?
Today, many children and adults in underserved communities face challenges called the "Nature Gap" that limit their ability to get out into our natural environment.

These challenges include lack of transportation, lack of resources, lack of nearby green spaces, lack of access to outdoor education programs and experiences and funding.

The Luck Group promotes equality and accessible resources to explore various opportunities in the outdoors. Part of The Luck Group's mission is to address the challenges that exist, such as the barriers listed below.
Current Barriers Such as:
-
Proximity to nature areas
-
Being uncertain of where to go
-
Not having a group or community to get involved with
-
Not having enough time (Preparation)
-
The cost of required outdoor gear
-
Fear of getting lost outdoors
-
Fear of wildlife
-
Difficulty planning outdoor activities with youth & family.
The Luck Group has a focus to minimize the "Nature Gap" by acknowledging the role that the historical and present environmental and social injustices have on outdoor accessibility for these communities. The "Nature Gap" effects the physical, social and emotional benefits of spending time in nature.

Benefits of Getting Youth & Families Outdoors:
Physical/Mental/Spiritual Fitness
-
Improves Academic Performance
-
Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
-
Build Strong Family Bond
-
Enhance Survival Skills
-
Gives an outlook on various occupations in natural resources

HOW WE DO IT
With support from private businesses, organizations, grants, fundraisers, sponsors, partners and Individuals, we are able to purchase outdoor recreational equipment & gear to help introduce youth and families to the outdoors. We work to support communities that have not historically had equitable access to nature or have not been traditionally served or represented by outdoor recreation entities.
The Luck Group:
-
Educate & provide hands on experience to youth & families.
-
Show youth & families how to access various outdoor opportunities - encouraging and ensuring family bonding to continue learned skills for generations.
-
Work with diverse groups of volunteers, partners, sponsors, private businesses and organizations to increase outdoor accessibility, providing career opportunities, continued education and environmental advocacy.
-
We receive our educational curriculum from the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR).
-
We are volunteer DWR Hunter Education Instructors, Boater Education Instructors and Angler Instructors.
